When you’re sharing a bathroom with other family members, it can be even more challenging to stay organized.

But challenging doesn’t mean impossible.

By putting in some time and effort you can make your bathroom an organized and minimalist space.

10 Bathroom Organization Hacks to Maximize Space

1. Keep Products Off The Counter

Many of us are probably guilty of leaving products out on the counter after we use them. While it might seem easier to leave them out if you use them every day, it will only make your space feel cluttered.

If you leave bottles out on the sink, water will pool underneath them and get grimy. Sinks are high touch points that can collect germs, so you don’t want that spreading to your products. Plus, nothing is worse than accidentally knocking something over and causing a domino effect.

Instead, create designated spaces for your products. For skincare, try to keep them all in the medicine cabinet or in a basket under the sink. If all your products don’t fit in one of those spaces, that’s a good sign that you have too many.

For makeup or hair products, consider removing them from the bathroom altogether if your space is too limited. Having a vanity table in your bedroom can keep your beauty products organized and out of the way in the bathroom.

2. Declutter Your Items

A surefire way to maximize space in your bathroom is to declutter items you don’t need. Evaluate your items and determine what may be unnecessary.

Again, if you can’t fit everything in your cabinets, it’s time to start tossing. Start with products that are expired or haven’t been used in the past six months.

Consider how many of each item you have. Do you really need multiple hair brushes or three different types of shampoo?

Additionally, be cautious about stocking up on products that you do use. When space is limited, it’s important not to have excessive overstock.

3. Choose Minimal Decorations

Some bathroom decorations can add a little personality to the space. However, too many rugs, fake plants, or decor accents can easily overwhelm the small room and limit your counter space.

Go the minimalist route and be selective with what you include in this part of your home.

For example, you can get one small painting to hang on the wall as a centerpiece for the entire space.

A mirror can be an excellent choice since it’s multifunctional — check your appearance before you head out the door. Additionally, its reflection of the room can make a small space feel bigger than before.

4. Organize Your Drawers

If you have drawers installed in the bathroom, take full advantage of them. This cabinetry can secure your items while making your restroom look neat.

Depending on the size of the cabinet, you can stand to put away larger items like your hair dryers and straighteners.

Be meticulous with how you store these items. Placing various items haphazardly can make them frustratingly difficult to access.

You can install dividers to section out and customize your drawer space for specific products.

5. Use Wall Storage

If your bathroom has limited cabinet space, storing items can be quite a challenge.

Consider adding shelving to the walls in your bathroom. Above the toilet is a great place to put up shelves, because they won’t take up too much space.

You can use the shelves to store towels if you don’t have a linen closet or any other items that don’t have a home already.

Look for items that would be more aesthetically pleasing and don’t overfill the shelves to keep the bathroom from looking cluttered.

6. Get a Vanity Organizer

There are various items homeowners use daily in the bathroom. Whether it’s deodorant, lotion, or hair care products, find organizers to make them a little more neat.

Here are some room organization ideas to help you get started:

  • Lazy Susans: Adding a miniature turntable to the bathroom countertop can be ideal if you have products of varying heights. Rotating your items can give you a complete view of what’s in there and help you spot what you need in a rush.
  • Clear organizers: Prefer a more stationary organizer that provides a clear view of your items? Look for transparent containers. Some acrylics make it easy to section out your items while keeping everything on full display.
  • Pull-out cabinet: Some people get a custom-made pull-out cabinet around their vanity area. If you have a smaller counter space for other options, hiding your items on the side of the countertop or behind the bathroom mirror is ideal.

7. Hang Items on the Curtain Rods

Curtain rods can also be handy tools for your bath area. Extend the rod to fit into the space next to your bathtub. You can also position one in your shower.

Once the rod is in place, you only need a hanging organizer. You can choose from mesh caddy organizers or metal baskets.

In these, you can place your favorite bath bomb, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The positioning is both creative and convenient.

8. Utilize the Door

In a small bathroom, you might not have a lot of wall space. However, you can always rely on the back of the door. You can hang hooks or an over-the-door towel rod to hang towels to dry.

You can also use over-the-door solutions like shoe organizers to hold extra toilet paper, bottles or hair tools.

These organizers are great for kids who might not be great at keeping a drawer tidy. Instead, they can just place items in the pockets and be able to see everything they need.

If you have a sink cabinet, you can utilize that door too. If the sink’s pipes take up a lot of storage space, you can hang hooks or baskets on the cabinet door.

9. Put Drawers Under the Sink

The cabinet under the sink can get cluttered quickly if you just throw things in there. Make better use of your vertical space by putting in some plastic drawers.

Drawers are great for keeping smaller items from getting lost. You can use them for items like medications, tweezers, bandaids, extra toothbrushes, and more.

Be sure to regularly open all the drawers and see what you have. One way your bathroom can quickly get cluttered is if you’re purchasing duplicates of things you already had because you didn’t realize you had them.

10. Focus on What Is Necessary

We’ve already talked about decluttering, but focusing on the bathroom essentials is a key bathroom organization hack that helps you maximize space.

You have a lot less to organize when you get down to what is truly necessary and that you use regularly.

For items that you need to keep but aren’t used as often, consider other areas where they could be stored. If you have a linen cabinet that’s a great option for storing first aid supplies and excess towels.

To maximize the space in your bathroom, minimize your things and look for ways to use every area to its full potential.
