Inside: Use these fun ways to celebrate your decluttering wins to help motivate you to complete the task.

For many of us, celebrating success is an important part of acknowledging the progress we’ve made and the milestones we’ve accomplished.

Earn a promotion at work? Time for a celebratory dinner at your favorite restaurant!

Achieve a personal goal or milestone? Enjoy a treat with your friends to recognize your accomplishment.

The same can – and should – apply to your decluttering wins.

Decluttering isn’t an easy or quick task for most people. Sorting through all of the stuff you’ve accumulated over the years, figuring out what stays and what goes, finding ways to organize the things you’ll keep, and getting rid of the rest can be exhausting and time-consuming.

Celebrating your decluttering wins along the way is not only a wonderful way to acknowledge the progress you’ve made, but it also serves as a great motivator to keep you on track toward your ultimate decluttering goals.

Not sure how you can celebrate your decluttering wins? Here are my favorite ways to make those decluttering milestones meaningful and fun. Consider which ones you’d enjoy or create your own!

9 Fun Ways to Celebrate Your Decluttering Wins

Here are some ideas of fun ways to celebrate your decluttering wins. There are ways to treat yourself while still living minimally.

1. Create a reward jar – and treat yourself!

At the start of your decluttering project, grab a jar and commit to putting a few dollars inside each time you reach a decluttering milestone – whatever that looks like for you.

When you’re done, you should have a decent amount saved up that you can use to treat yourself to something special.

You could use that money to enjoy one of the other activities mentioned in this list. If you want to buy yourself something, just be sure to be intentional with your purchase so that you don’t get something that would become clutter in your home.

2. Indulge in a little self-care and relaxation.

Decluttering can be an exhausting task – both mentally and physically. You’re constantly making decisions, many of which aren’t easy.

And the whole process can honestly feel like a workout when you’re constantly bending, reaching, and moving.

If you’re feeling a little sore and physically tired after decluttering, consider what form of self-care would be most beneficial for you.

That could mean taking a nap, getting a massage, or a spa treatment. Decide what’s the most relaxing option for you.

Take some time to destress and decompress to celebrate what you’ve accomplished.

3. Enjoy hygge activities at home.

A benefit of a decluttered home is having more time to enjoy your space and do the things you love.

Opting for some tech-free time is a great way to celebrate your decluttering wins as you embrace hygge in your home. Your space is clean and organized – why not soak it up?

Light a few candles and put on your favorite playlist to set the mood. Then, indulge in an offline activity that you love.

Put together a puzzle, read a book, draw, or write in your journal. Bake something. Meditate. Consider which activities would be the most enjoyable for you as you enjoy a cozy evening at home.

4. Invite friends over for a dinner party.

Love to cook? Love to host? If you’ve been hesitant to invite friends to your house due to the clutter and chaos, there’s no better time to open your doors and host.

Celebrating your wins with an intimate dinner party is not only a great way to make good use of your newly-clean kitchen, but it’s also a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an evening filled with good company, delicious food, and just the right atmosphere.

And you don’t have to commit to cooking every dish! A potluck can be a great way to let others contribute. Most people will be more than happy to chip in.

Set a theme for the evening to keep things cohesive, or tell everyone to bring their favorite dish for a more eclectic (but equally delicious) approach.

Knowing that you have invited people to your home is a great motivator to finish up any lingering projects you’ve been working on.

5. Treat yourself to your favorite meal.

If you don’t love to cook, a dinner party probably isn’t the right way to celebrate your decluttering wins. And that’s OK!

Instead, consider picking up takeout from your favorite restaurant for a stress-free meal you’ll love. Enjoy eating dinner while admiring all that you’ve accomplished in your home.

Whether your idea of a celebratory meal is from an upscale restaurant, the most popular pizza place in town, or even something as simple as a pastry and coffee from your favorite cafe, you really can’t go wrong.

Just make sure you slow down, savor each bite, and remember what you’re celebrating – the milestone you’ve reached in your decluttering journey.

6. Engage in a hobby you’ve been missing.

Through the decluttering process, you may rediscover hobby items that have been long forgotten. Sometimes these items get purchased during a different phase in life and get left behind when life gets busy.

To celebrate your decluttering wins, set aside a few of these supplies and spend an afternoon using them.

Maybe they’re art supplies or yarn and knitting needles. You might find that you still love that hobby and with a decluttered home and organized supplies, you’ll be better able to enjoy them.

7. Enjoy a breath of fresh air.

For an easy, low-cost way to celebrate your decluttering wins, lace up your favorite pair of sneakers and get outside!

There’s something energizing and refreshing about soaking up the sunshine and getting a little fresh air – it can absolutely count as a celebration, especially if you enjoy an activity you love.

There are so many ways you can make it happen. Pack a picnic to enjoy at your favorite park.

Dust off that bike in your garage and cruise around your neighborhood – or simply take a walk and soak in the sounds and sights.

Visit the most beautiful part of your town and take a scenic walk, or head to a nearby nature trail for a hike. Love to work up a sweat? Up the intensity by going for a run or a bike ride.

Not only will you enjoy your time spent outside, but the endorphins you get from moving your body will be a sweet reward for all the hard work you did to declutter your space.

8. Have a movie night or game night at home.

You’ve been working hard on creating more breathing room in your home so that you have less stress and can more fully enjoy your space.

Perhaps you’ve been wanting to spend more quality time with your family. Celebrate your decluttering wins by planning a movie night or game night at home.

You can theme the evening or keep it more low-key, whichever you prefer.

Our family enjoys doing a movie night breakfast for dinner picnic one night per week. We’re also big fans of board games. Check out this post with a list of our 37 favorite family board games.

9. Explore somewhere new.

If you feel like you need a vacation after all of your hard work, see if you can make it happen by planning a day trip or booking a night away. Consider what new areas you’d like to explore nearby.

If you want to make a weekend of it, a nice hotel downtown, a charming bed and breakfast, a little cabin in nature, or a place by the water can be a great change of scenery and an excellent way to reward yourself for the hard work you’ve put into decluttering your home.

Don’t have the time or money to stay for the whole weekend? No problem, day trips can be just as fun.

Returning home to a clean, relaxing space the next day makes the whole experience even better.
